The Art and Poetry Challenge, an annual Racial Unity Team event, showcases human connection through the arts. K-12 students and adults were invited to submit art or poetry based on the theme of “Belonging.” The exhibit examines the opposing concepts of belonging and exclusion as experienced in our world today. A broad diversity of NH residents presented their original works of art or poetry and competed for monetary awards given to the first, second, and third-place winners across five age categories.

Noted local artist, educator, and Director of Admissions for Recruitment and Access at UNH, Richard Haynes, worked with LGBTQIA+ youth, adults, and allies to collaboratively design a mural that was painted by the public at the Portsmouth Pride event at Strawbery Banke. This collaborative mural will be on exhibit at the Portsmouth Public Library from July 1 through July 30 in the lobby. 

Join us for a Research Huddle in the Special Collections Room! In sports, a huddle is when players gather in a circle to strategize, motivate, or celebrate. We think genealogists should do the same!

This is the perfect opportunity to dig into your personal history and tell your family’s story. Use the library’s print collections and research databases to progress with your fact-finding. We’ll gather to use library resources, share our successes, learn from fellow researchers, and overcome our research stumbling blocks!

Sage Clarke is back this summer to offer free weekly yoga classes on Tuesday evenings! Join us on Tuesdays from June 17 to September 16 from 6:30-7:30 PM for an hour of outdoor, all-levels yoga in the library garden behind the library.

Our focus will be to move and awaken the body, find a mental respite from our busy lives, recharge our spirit, and fully enjoy our precious summer.
