Hall Cemetery is a family cemetery located behind 280 South Street. Established during Portsmouth’s colonial era of the late 1700s, the cemetery and its 38 gravesites and historic headstones were deeded to the City of Portsmouth in the early 1900s.

South Street Cemetery is actually five distinct -- and individually owned and stewarded -- cemeteries, two of which are owned by the City of Portsmouth.  Those two are Cotton Cemetery and Elmwood Cemetery, both situated between the Clough Drive recreation field and one of the other three private burial sites, Proprietors Cemetery. The other two privately-maintained locations are Harmony Grove and Sagamore.
