Residents encouraged to review snow parking ban information, sign up for alerts
By signing up for Portsmouth’s CodeRED alerts, you can receive immediate alerts by text and/or email when there is an advanced warning for a snow emergency, a declared parking ban and when a parking ban has been terminated. When an advanced warning for a parking ban is declared, Portsmouth residents can park at the Hanover and Foundry Place garages at a special flat fee rate. From the time there is an advanced warning up until two hours after a parking ban has been terminated, it costs $5 to park at Hanover, and $3 to park at Foundry Place.
What other responsibilities should I consider during snow emergencies?
Snow clearing efforts are greatly reduced when residents clear sidewalks of debris, trash cans and recycling bins prior to a storm. If you find yourself behind a snow plow, please keep in mind that the driver has low visibility, typically 10 feet or less, and may not be able to see you. Please slow down and follow well behind the plow with your headlights on. If you must pass, please do so with extreme caution.
Is there a phone number I can call to learn about snow bans?
Yes, residents can call our Snow Phone at 766-7669 (SNO-SNOW) to learn of the current parking ban status.
How is trash and recycling collection affected during snow emergencies?
During this storm (Dec 1-3, 2019), trash and recycling collection will be proceed as normal. Residents are also welcome to drop items off at the Recycling Center.
