City Clerk’s Office Now Issuing 2024 Dog Licenses
March 27, 2024As required by State law, all dogs residing in the City of Portsmouth must be licensed annually. Before the license can be issued, the dog must be properly vaccinated against rabies.

DPW to Conduct Routine Hydrant Flushing Starting April 1, 2024
March 27, 2024The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division begins its seasonal routine flushing of fire hydrants and water mains on Monday, April 1, 2024. The flushing will take place at various locations, Monday through Thursday, between 7 am and 11 pm, and is expected to take six weeks to complete.

Local History: The Original Bucky Lew — Basketball's First Black Professional, Tuesday April 16
March 26, 2024Harry "Bucky" Lew became New Hampshire's first Black professional when he played for the Portsmouth Pros in 1905. In a history-making career that started in Lowell, MA, and spanned 25 years, he ultimately became the first Black player, coach, manager, referee, and franchise owner in an otherwise white game.
