Mosquitoes carrying equine encephalitis (EEE) have been found in Department of Health and Human Services test samples from Portsmouth and Fremont in Rockingham County. Residents are urged to take precautions to reduce their exposure.

Portsmouth, N.H.— With a new school year starting Monday, August 26th, City Officials are reminding motorists to be alert and to watch for crossing guards at key locations around the city. Crossing guards with vests and signs assist students and their guardians who are walking and biking to school on busy City streets.  Drivers are urged to use caution near school neighborhoods, plan routes away from heavy school traffic if travel is time-sensitive, and to obey posted school speed limits and crossing guard signals.

On August 16, 2019, at approximately 1:05AM, the Portsmouth Police Department received a 911 call reporting a female lying in the roadway on Woodbury Avenue. Patrol units responded and located an unconscious female subject evidencing serious injuries. She was transported to the Portsmouth Hospital where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with life threatening injuries.
