The Portsmouth Police Department and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating a death of a 28 year old male which occurred in Portsmouth on Friday, September 13, 2019.

At approximately 2:51 AM on September 13th, the Portsmouth Police and Fire departments responded to 3370 #15 Lafayette Rd after a female reported finding her friend unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive the male, he was deceased on-scene.

The City wants to hear from the public about sidewalks and traffic-calming measures on streets in the Elwyn Park neighborhood. Neighborhood residents are invited to attend a public meeting on Tuesday October 1 at 6:30pm at the Dondero School library.

Public Works to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on October 5, 2019

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, October 5th, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Proof of residency is required.

At approximately 6:10 PM, the Portsmouth Police Department Dispatch Center began receiving calls of a person floating in the Piscataqua River in the area of the decks behind Surf restaurant.  Portsmouth Police Officers responded to the area and were assisted by New Hampshire Marine Patrol, the US Coast Guard and the Portsmouth Fire Department, who all responded to the scene with boats. 

The Portsmouth Planning Department and Planning Board are welcoming public input on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2021 to 2026 (July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2026). Residents are asked to submit projects for consideration in the next CIP by October 15th. The CIP sets forth a 6-year schedule and financing strategy to accomplish necessary public improvements and meet infrastructure needs.
