Arson Arrest

October 23, 2019

On October 19th at 2:14 AM, the Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to Prescott Park for a Ford F-350 dump body truck that was fully engulfed in flames. Evidence on scene suggested that the fire was intentionally set. Fire Investigators from both the Police and Fire Departments processed the scene for evidence. The investigation ultimately led to the arrest of the following individual:

Portsmouth's 2019 "Trick-or-Treat" & Halloween Parade

The date and time for “Trick-or-Treat” activities in Portsmouth this year will be Wednesday, October 30th, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

 

The Portsmouth Police Department encourages families participating in this activity to review and practice personal safety as they walk through neighborhoods at this time of day, as driver visibility can be diminished by the darkness setting in.

National Drug Take Back Day: October 26th, 2019

The Portsmouth Police Department will be joining the Drug Enforcement Administration and other seacoast communities in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day; this Saturday, October 26th 2019, at the Portsmouth Police Department, from 10:00 A.M.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) & Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans Community Information Session October 24 on Upcoming Pease Study: PFAS Health Effects.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire -- At a press conference on October 11th US Senator Jeanne Shaheen announced the creation of a national Health Study, proposed by her legislation, of people exposed to human-made chemicals per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). A Pilot Study will focus on PFAS exposure to these chemicals at the former Pease Air Force base.

Planning Department to host Public Information Meeting on proposed Wetland and Flood Plains amendments to City Zoning Ordinance

October 16, 2019

The Portsmouth City Council is currently reviewing proposed amendments to sections of the City’s Zoning Ordinance that regulate Wetlands Protection and Flood Plains.  Both the Conservation Commission and the Planning Board have held work sessions on these amendments and, after a public hearing on September 19, 2019, the Planning Board recommended adoption of these proposed amendments to the City Council.
