Portsmouth City Manager Search Process Narrowed to Three Finalists

PORTSMOUTH NH -- With the upcoming retirement of City Manager John Bohenko at the end of December 2019, the city began an active search for a qualified candidate to take his place and hired the specialist GovHR USA in June to help with recruitment.  The Portsmouth City Council has conducted preliminary interviews for the position of City Manager. The City received 54 applications for the position, from 23 states.

Fraudulent Delivery Scam Arrest

October 9, 2019

On October 8th, the Portsmouth Police received a call from a resident about a new iPhone that was delivered to his house from AT&T, that he did not order. Being familiar with recent scams regarding these deliveries, the resident called to alert the police. Members of the Portsmouth Police Special Investigations Unit initiated surveillance on the residence in question.

25th Annual Halloween parade October 31st

The Portsmouth Halloween Parade is an all-volunteer effort, not a City-sponsored event. The parade steps off from Peirce Island at 7 pm and ends at Prescott Park. The parade route proceeds down Daniel Street into Market Square.

Registration Now Open for Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program

October 2, 2019

PORTSMOUTH, NH – The City of Portsmouth Parking Clerk Office is now accepting registrations for the 2019-2020 Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program. The monthly permit allow employees who work in Portsmouth’s downtown area to park at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. parking lot on Market Street Extension, where 51 spaces are available from Nov. 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020.  Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at the Parking Clerk’s office at 1 Junkins Ave. in Portsmouth City Hall.

ALERT: Chapel Street CLOSED October 1 from 7 am to 12 noon

September 30, 2019

Chapel Street between Daniel and Bow Streets will be closed from 7 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, October 1 to perform work on the road surface in front of St. John's Church. Traffic will be rerouted around the area and will be blocked from entering Bow from Market Street. The right turn from Penhallow to Bow will also be blocked.
