Leak Adjustment Application
The City of Portsmouth offers consideration for a one time sewer adjustment to customers based on unusual water consumption at their property. As sewer charges are based on the water consumption, any adjustment approved would only be applied to the sewer portion of the customer's account. In order to be considered for a leak adjustment credit on your account, an application must be completed. Please review the following information and guidelines.

Trees & Public Greenery Committee
The Trees & Public Greenery Committee was established by Ordinance [Chapter 1, Article IV, Section 1.409] and consists of ten (10) voting members including a member of the City Council, the City Manager or designee, the Tree Warden, the Public Works Foreman in charge of tree maintenance, and six (6) individuals with an interest in trees and public greenery. The six (6) non-staff members of the Committee are appointed by the Mayor and City Council for three-year terms.
Parking and Traffic Safety Committee
The Parking and Traffic Safety Committee consists of nine regular members and one alternate appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The Committee is composed of the City Manager, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Public Works Director or their respective designees as well as a member of the City Council and five residents of the City (4 regular members and on alternate). The City Manager, Police Chief, Fire Chief and Public Works Director (or their respective designees) serve during their terms of employment with the City.
Solid Waste Ordinance
The City has a Solid Waste Ordinance (click here) that establishes guidelines for trash pickup and disposal. The Department of Public Works' Solid Waste Group is responsible for waste collection/disposal from both private / commercial residences / establishments that fall within established criteria. Answer: Neither method is secure on its own. Any document placed directly in the trash or recycling bin can potentially be accessed. The safest way to protect your personal or confidential information is to shred documents before disposal.

Antifreeze
Bring it to the Recycling Center. The antifreeze must be clean and clear. If it is contaminated with any other type of waste (i.e. oil or gasoline) it must be disposed of as a hazardous waste.
Batteries
Please note: Alkaline Batteries can be disposed of in the regular household trash.
