Online Motor Vehicle Renewal

We are pleased to offer our customers who are renewing their registrations the convenience of submitting renewal requests and payments online. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit and debit cards, and electronic checks are accepted for vehicle registration renewal payments.

 

How Does This Work?

Our service is only available to Portsmouth residents who wish to renew their registrations. It is not available for new, first-time, or plate transfer registrations.

Tax Payment Options

At Tax Collectors Office

  • Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted

  • Credit Cards Accepted: Visa, Mastercard, Discover & American Express.
    Credit Card Fee: 2.95% Service Fees ($1.95 minimum fee) apply to all debit and credit card payments.

  • An ATM is available in City Hall.  $2.25 fee applies per $400.00 withdrawal.

 

Online

  • No fee to pay by checking/savings account (ACH/e-check)

Property Tax Collection

Important Dates

  • The 2025 1st Issue Property Tax Installment Bills were mailed and available on-line on December 24, 2025, and are due January 29, 2026
  • The 2025 2nd Issue Property Tax Installment Bills will be mailed in early spring 2026, and will have a due date of June 1, 2026
  • Interest of 8% starts accruing daily on any unpaid balance the day after

  • Collection and deposit of property taxes, motor vehicle permits, utility payments, fire alarm payments, miscellaneous accounts receivable and departmental deposits. 
     
  • Processing and issuance of motor vehicle permits and title applications.

The Purpose of the Tax Collection Office is to assure safe and accurate collection and timely deposit of city monies while serving customers in a professional and courteous manner. Please visit us on the second floor of City Hall for Property Tax Information, Tax Payments, Vehicle Registration, Utility Payments and Park Mobile Resident Discount registration.
