Summer Reading Kickoff and Community Picnic, Friday June 20

Join Portsmouth Public Library & Portsmouth Recreation for an epic kick-off to summer vacation! 

There will be:

  • inflatable games
  • lawn games
  • food trucks
  • a DJ
  • and MORE!

Also sign up for the library's summer reading program and if you are attending Camp Fun Stuff - meet your counselors and check out the Connie Bean Center!  There is something for everyone to LEVEL UP their summer reading and fun!

Halcyon Children's Concert, Wednesday June 11

Children, families, and classical music lovers are invited to a very special free performance at the library this month!

Visiting musicians, from institutions like New England Conservatory and New York Philharmonic, will play movements from a variety of pieces and will also discuss the history of quartets, and answer questions! You do not want to miss this unique and incredible experience!

Registration is required. All are welcome!

Walk with a Doc, Saturday June 14

Walk With a Doc inspires communities through movement and conversation with walking groups led by healthcare providers. Join Dr. Anna Vestling from the Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Saturday June 14 for a seven minute health talk focused on Walking for Fitness. Following the presentation, she will lead you on a 30 minute walk! Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather, and bring a water bottle if you wish.  

Registration is not required, just drop in to take a walk, learn about health, and meet new friends!

The 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s:

Alzheimer's and other dementias cause memory, thinking and behavior problems that interfere with daily living. Join us to learn how to recognize common signs of the disease; how to approach someone about memory concerns; the importance of early detection and benefits of a diagnosis; possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process, and Alzheimer's Association resources. Join us to learn the ten signs!

Poisoning the Well: How Forever Chemicals Contaminated America, Wednesday June 4

Award-winning environmental journalist Sharon Udasin will present her new book, Poisoning the Well: How Forever Chemicals Contaminated America, which traces an ugly history of corporate greed, military impunity, and community devastation, based on original reporting in four highly polluted places. The book introduces readers to people who, while fighting for their own lives, take action to fix a broken regulatory system.
