Business License
The City of Portsmouth does not require a business license. However, the State of New Hampshire issues business licenses.
Applications may be obtained from the New Hampshire Secretary of State at 603-271-3242 or via the web at www.state.nh.us/sos.
Bowling & Billiards Application
In order to maintain a billiard room or bowling alley in Portsmouth, you are required to obtain a Billiards/Bowling license. You can find the application for this license below. Also, read the relevant ordinance for further information about requirements, hour of operation, and penalties (Chapter 6, Article II).
Amusement Games Application
If you wish to engage in the business of owning an establishment which contains coin operated amusement games, then you are required to apply for an Amusement Games license, which you can find below. Also, please read the associated city ordinance (Chapter 6, Article IV).
