DPW Begins Limited Fall Hydrant Flushing
September 16, 2025The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division begins its seasonal routine flushing of fire hydrants and water mains on Monday, September 22, 2025. Due to the ongoing drought conditions on the Seacoast, the flushing will be limited to targeted areas. The flushing will take place for the next four weeks, Monday through Thursday, between 7 am and 11 pm.
Municipal Election Filing Period Now Open, Voter Registration Events Announced
September 8, 2025Kelli Barnaby, City Clerk for the City of Portsmouth NH, announced the filing period for candidates interested in running for office in the City of Portsmouth Municipal Election opened on September 2, 2025 and closes on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The Municipal Elections take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Polling hours will be decided by the City Council at their meeting on September 8, 2025.

September 8, 2025The Office of the City Clerk and the Portsmouth Public Library invite you to register to vote or update your voter registration, at one of two voter registration sessions at the Portsmouth Public Library. Drop in to the library lobby for either of the two sessions on Thursday, September 18 or Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30 to 7 PM.
City Hosts Master Plan Public Information Meeting on Monday, September 15
September 5, 2025The City's Planning & Sustainability Department will host a Master Plan Public Information Meeting on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Levenson Community Room at the Portsmouth Public Library. The meeting will consist of a presentation by the consultant firm Utile, an opportunity for public comment and a question and answer session with the consultants and City staff.

September 2, 2025Chief Mark Newport of the Portsmouth Police Department is invoking his emergency powers and ordering that no parking will be permitted on Grafton Drive, including the truck turnaround, on Friday, September 5th; Saturday, September 6th; and Sunday, September 7th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Vehicles parked on Grafton Drive or in the truck turnaround during these times will be towed at the owner's expense.

August 27, 2025City Plans to Start Construction on South Mill Pond Playground on September 22, 2025
August 21, 2025The City plans to start work soon on the South Mill Pond Playground Project, included in the capital budget for FY25 and set to replace the existing South Mill playground with a new, universal design, ADA-compliant, age-friendly, inclusive playground.
Due to a short delay to secure the needed wetlands permit from the NH Department of Environmental Services, this project is now scheduled to start on September 22, 2025 and will be complete by October 3, 2025.
