Project Overview
The Ceres Street Sewer Lining Project is to extend the lifetime of the sewer main running under Ceres Street. The pipes are aged and in poor condition, which is allowing large quantities of seawater to enter the sewer collection system. The seawater is causing corrosive damage to the City’s infrastructure as well as increased costs related to pumping and treating otherwise clean water. These factors, as well as the increased chances of a combined sewer overflow event, make this project a priority.
To fix this problem the City is working with Vortex, a specialty contractor in trenchless pipe repair technologies. The contractor will install a structural liner inside of the sewer main to create a new pipe inside of the old pipe. This will stop the seawater from intruding into the sewer main without the need to dig up Ceres Street to install new pipe. While this method minimizes disruption, there can be no water in the pipes during this time.
