Department of Public Works Hosts Public Information Meeting on Asset Management Initiative on November 13, 2025

October 30, 2025

The City of Portsmouth NH Department of Public Works is hosting a public information meeting on the City’s Asset Management initiative on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 6 pm in City Hall Conference Room A and via Zoom. To register to attend via Zoom, visit: portsnh.co/meet_assetmanagement.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) launched the Asset Management initiative in 2022, in conjunction with engineering consultants and Asset Management specialists Wright-Pierce, with funding from the NH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) Clean Water State Revolving Fund. This asset management program encompasses the City’s Pease Wastewater Treatment Facility, Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility, Sewer Collection System, and Stormwater Collection System. The system helps the City address and plan for its ongoing infrastructure maintenance program and capital improvement funding. Future efforts will expand this program to include other infrastructure managed by the DPW.

As part of its mission, NHDES offers information, technical assistance, and funding to help communities plan for their infrastructure needs. These plans provide a framework for reducing operational risks and addressing challenges that arise as infrastructure ages. Asset Management policies enhance DPW’s strategic planning efforts for capital improvement investment in the City’s infrastructure.

The public information meeting will explain the City’s asset management practices to improve the understanding of wastewater and stormwater assets. This asset management program helps the City shift its resources from reactive (repairs and break/fix) to proactive (planned and preventative maintenance and upgrades) of City assets, while minimizing rate-payer expenses for maintaining stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.
