Peirce Island

Peirce Island is a 27-acre island owned by the City of Portsmouth overlooking the Piscataqua River, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the south end of Portsmouth. The boat launch provides access to the calmer back channel of the Piscataqua River. It holds many natural habitats and aesthetic views including salt marshes, tide pools, rocky outcroppings, wooded trails, and scenic vistas.

A short walk from Prescott Park, Strawbery Banke, Gundalow Boat Co, and downtown, Peirce Island is a picturesque location to visit for an outing with the family, park for a special event, or bring your pup pup.

  • Boat Launch: boat launch with dock, kayak racks, seasonal portopotty, free parking for launch users.
  • Four Tree Island: Seasonal restrooms, pavilion, picnic tables, grills
  • Off-leash Dog Area: Open dawn to dusk daily. 
  • Spiraling Serenity Art Installation
  • Playground
  • Sand Volleyball Court
  • Walking Trails
  • Peirce Island Outdoor Pool: Open seasonally for public swim, swim lessons, lap swim. Free parking.
  • State Fish Pier
  • Waste Water Treatment Plant: Located at the far end of the island - Not open to the public.

Dogs

Content

Dogs are welcome at Peirce Island on leash.

There is a designated off leash dog area on the island as well.
