Revitalization Committee Promotes Various Methods for Participating in Public Listening Session

On Wednesday June 28, 2017, the Strategic Planning Committee for Vaughan-Worth-Bridge Revitalization will hold a public listening session at 6:30 p.m. at the Discover Portsmouth Center. The Committee’s website has been updated to provide information about the various methods the public can use to provide input to the Committee at this early stage in the process. These methods include a survey, electronic comment form, file sharing, and mark-up maps.

Public Tour of Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade Project to be held on Tuesday, June 20th

PORTSMOUTH, NH – Guided public tours of the Peirce Island Wastewater Facility (WWTF) construction site will be conducted on Tuesday, June 20th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. City staff, along with others involved in the construction of the Peirce Island WWTF upgrade project, will be guiding interested parties through the construction site to provide an opportunity to observe the status of the ongoing construction.

City Committee Begins Work on Strategic Plan for Downtown Area

In April, Mayor Blalock appointed a Strategic Planning Committee for Vaughan-Worth-Bridge Revitalization. Councilor Rebecca Perkins was appointed Chair of the Committee, which will focus on the City-owned parcels known as the Bridge Street lot, Vaughan Mall Lot (formerly Worth Lot) and the Vaughan Mall, as well as the public rights-of way between the future Foundry Place Garage and the Islington Street and Maplewood Avenue Intersection.

Sewer System Field Work Begins May 8, 2017

Work related to the City’s sewer system evaluation study will begin on May 8, 2017 and is expected to continue through June 2017. This work will be used to identify areas of the City where groundwater is entering the City’s sewer collection system.

Youth Summer Basketball League

April 28, 2017

The Portsmouth Police Department acting in a Community Partnership with the Portsmouth Recreation Department will be sponsoring the Summer Youth Basketball league this year for boys and girls who are currently in grades 5, 6, and 7.

Children who are residents of Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, New Castle, and Newington are eligible to play.

There will be three opportunities for sign ups, and organizational practices on the following dates:

National Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm is National Drug Take Back Day. The public can drop off their unwanted prescription drugs at the Portsmouth Police Department. The department also has a permanent drop box available 24/7 for any unwanted prescription drugs.

Portsmouth DPW Implements Changes to Downtown Trash Collection Schedule

Last year, the Department of Public Works began updating the City’s Solid Waste Ordinance, last revised in 2003. On October 17, 2016, the City Council approved an update to the City’s Solid Waste Ordinance Section 3.201 to better accommodate the Downtown Business District curbside collection times and update the ordinance language to reflect current practice and industry standards.
