Untimely Death
August 7, 2017At approximately 3:10 AM on Friday, August 4, 2017, the Portsmouth Fire Department was responding to a call from station one on Court Street when they passed through the intersection of Court Street and Middle Street and observed a male lying on the sidewalk. Upon further investigation they found a deceased male with an apparent head injury. The Portsmouth Police Department was notified and began an investigation.
Sobriety Checkpoints / DWI Enforcement
July 24, 2017Chief Robert Merner of the Portsmouth Police Department, will continue the effort to apprehend drunk drivers in the City of Portsmouth by conducting a sobriety checkpoint this week. The Rockingham County Superior Court has authorized the checkpoint.

Firearm Arrest/Car Breaks
July 20, 2017Shortly after 6:30 AM this morning Portsmouth Police received a phone call reporting a suspicious male inside of Dunkin Donuts at 531 Islington Street. The male suspect was describes as being “out of it” and was in possession of a firearm. No threats were made and the firearm was described as being removed from the suspect’s waistband and placed on a chair.
