The City of Portsmouth Cemetery Committee is organizing a headstone-cleaning project in the historic North Cemetery on Maplewood Avenue on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Volunteers are invited to register to join the Committee between 9 am and noon to learn how preservationists clean and preserve historic grave markers.

The Portsmouth Police Department will be joining the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other seacoast communities on the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, this Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at the Portsmouth Police Department 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event is being offered to the community to provide an opportunity to turn in prescription drugs which may be in your household and are no longer needed. The department will take pills, patches and liquid medicine. No needles or sharp items will be accepted. The service is free of charge and anonymous.

The Arbor Day Foundation has again named Portsmouth a Tree City USA and has awarded the Tree Growth Award to the City’s Department of Public Works Forestry crew. City Arborist Charles Baxter, and arborists Max Wiater and Steve Burns improved multiple aspects of the City’s forestry program in 2021 to achieve this award.
