New Fiscal Year Brings Parking Changes July 1

The Portsmouth Police Department arrested 6 individuals yesterday, totaling 12 charges after a lengthy investigation involving the sale of narcotics at Portsmouth Housing Authority properties.

City of Portsmouth Moves Forward with Cautious Reopening

June 23, 2020

The Governor intends that most of New Hampshire will “open” by July 1st, having released retail stores, restaurants and recreational venues from his “Stay At Home” orders on June 15. The combination of three months of lost revenue, hesitant customers and the new State guidelines on occupancy, sanitizing and employee protections mean that most businesses in Portsmouth are reopening as reimagined establishments.

Celia Thaxter's Appledore Island Garden Moves Temporarily to Prescott Park

Visitors to poet Celia Thaxter at her hotel on Appledore Island at the Isles of Shoals once enjoyed the vibrant conversation of their fellow guests at her literary “salons;” but they were equally entranced by her gardens. Childe Hassam, America’s Impressionist made her garden famous in his paintings and Celia Thaxter published a book with collected poems and watercolor illustrations of her gardens.

Maplewood Avenue Paving June 17 & 18

The Department of Public Works announces that the Contractor intends to complete the final paving of Maplewood Avenue, from the intersection with Woodbury Avenue, to Edmond Avenue on June 17 & 18. Work will proceed, weather permitting.
