Car Break Arrest
July 20, 2020On July 20, 2020 at approximately 1:00am, the Portsmouth Police Department received a call from an Elwyn Ave resident about a male who was seen going through his car. A detailed description of the male was given, and moments later patrol officers located the male on Brackett Lane. The male was pushing a scooter, later determined to be stolen from a Haven Rd address. The male fled on foot at the sight of the officer and was immediately apprehended. Officers canvased the area and learned that the male had also gone through several vehicles where items were taken.
City Council Adopts Face Covering Resolution; Ordinance Work Session July 22
July 17, 2020At their meeting on July 13, the Portsmouth City Council unanimously adopted “A Resolution Requiring Face Coverings to be Worn at Times in the City of Portsmouth.” The Council also, at that meeting, unanimously voted to send a letter drafted by Councilor Cliff Lazenby to Governor Sununu and to be shared with surrounding communities to encourage them to send similar letters to the Governor.

On a call yesterday morning, Dr. Benjamin Chan, NH State Epidemiologist reiterated his three recommendations for precautions throughout the pandemic:
1. Wear a mask.
2. Maintain physical distancing of a minimum of 6-feet.
3. Avoid mass gatherings.

K9 Unit Announcement
July 8, 2020The Portsmouth Police Department proudly announce K9 Officer Bill Werner and K9 Frankie’s recent graduation from The Boston Police K9 Academy’s Patrol Dog School. This Police Canine Handler course consisted of 560 hours of training and a National Certification in a variety of areas to include K9 Obedience, Evidence Recovery, Area Search, Building Search, Tracking, and Aggression Control.

July 7, 2020The NH Internet Crimes Against Children’s Task Force is pleased to announce and introduce to you K-9 Niko, NH ICAC’s first ever Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K-9. ESD K-9s are capable of detecting and finding electronics such as cell phones, computers, flash drives, hard drives, SD cards and even micro SD cards. These specialized K-9s are being deployed throughout the country and are being utilized for search warrants at the homes of suspected child pornographers.

Work Begins July 13 on Downtown Maplewood Ave. Signal Upgrades
July 1, 2020Starting the week of July 13, Electric Light Company of York, Maine will begin the upgrade to the traffic signals at three intersections along Maplewood Avenue at Deer Street, Hanover Street and Congress Street. During the work, there will be daily closures of one of the sidewalk corners at each of the intersections. Detour signing will be provided to direct pedestrians to the open crosswalks at each intersection. Pedestrian signals will remain operational during the work.
