Partnership to Promote Bicycle Safety - "Teach the Reach"
October 5, 2020In an effort to increase awareness and promote bicycle safety, the Portsmouth Police Department has partnered with the City Planning Department and SABR (Seacoast Area Bicycle Riders). Along with education, the partnership aims to spread the message of “Teach the Reach”, a simple technique that requires drivers and passengers to look back over their shoulder before opening a vehicle door.

City Clerk's Office Unable to Certify Vital Records on WED Sep 23
September 22, 2020The City Clerk’s office will not be able to process marriage licenses or issue certified copies of vital records on Wednesday, September 23rd due to a software upgrade by the Division of Vital Records. Normal transactions will take place on Thursday, September 24th.

DPW Water Dept. Announces Hydrant Flushing Operations
September 21, 2020The Portsmouth DPW Water Division begins the routine flushing of the City’s fire hydrants and water mains on Monday, September 21. Flushing is scheduled between 7 pm and 11 pm, Monday through Thursday for the next six weeks. The flushing operation covers both public and private hydrants in Portsmouth, New Castle, Rye, Greenland and Newington. Crews open select fire hydrants, releasing water with enough velocity to carry sediment out of the pipes.
