Recreation Department Invites the Public to Create Valentine Hearts for the Annual “Tree of Love” in Market Square

January 20, 2026

The City has kept the holiday tree lights shining in Market Square and, with Valentine’s Day approaching on February 14, invites the community to help turn it into a “Tree of Love.”

The Portsmouth Recreation Department welcomes everyone from toddlers to seniors to join in. Residents, visitors, and local businesses are encouraged to create or decorate a heart to hang on the tree. Let your creativity shine!

Heart templates are available online, at the Senior Activity Center, 125 Cottage Street, at the Connie Bean Recreation Center, 155 Parrott Avenue, and at the Community Campus, 100 Campus Drive. Once completed, decorated hearts can be dropped off at the same locations or mailed to the Recreation Department, 100 Campus Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 9, 2026. Recreation Department staff will laminate the hearts and hang them on the Tree of Love on Friday, February 13. Then, participants are invited to find their hearts on the tree in Market Square and share images on social media with the tag #portsmouthtreeoflove.
