City Joins NH Firefighters Association in Honoring Fallen Firefighters
May 1, 2025
Portsmouth Fire Chief William McQuillen has enlisted the City’s help in the "Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters" program. The Memorial Bridge is illuminated with red lights during the week of April 27 - May 4, 2025 to honor the fallen and their families. Local firefighter Charles A. Gallant, a firefighter from the Rye Fire Department, was added to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Roll of Honor this year.
According to the NH Firefighters Association, “The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Light the Night, honors our nation’s fallen firefighters by lighting the exterior of homes, fire stations, town or state buildings, and landmarks in red lights. During this year's national memorial weekend event, we are adding 3 NH fallen firefighters to the memorial: Charles A. Gallant from Rye, Jeffrey M. Whitcomb from NH Department of Safety, Division of Fire Standards and Training and EMS, and Jessica L. Wyman from Nashua.”
Portsmouth Fire Chief William McQuillen said, “The City of Portsmouth has experienced many devastating fires in its history and is vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of all our residents and visitors, but we are always mindful that the firefighters on the frontlines of that safety put their lives on the line in service to this community each and every day. Remembering the fallen like Chuck, Jeff and Jess in this visible way makes their lives and their sacrifices seen.”
