City Begins Next Phase of Wayfinding to Support Walkability and Local Access

August 19, 2025

The has resumed the implementation of its Citywide Wayfinding Program, developed to enhance wayfinding types, messaging, and locations in a uniform and recognizable design that is unique to the City.

Phases 1-3 focused on the City’s public parking areas and traffic signage directing drivers to key visitor destinations. These were completed in 2021. Phase 4 includes signage that facilitates pedestrian movement within the downtown core by placing approximately 40 signs at primary intersections and on existing lampposts downtown. These installations are expected to be substantially complete by September 30, 2025.

In early 2014, the City completed the creation of a Citywide Wayfinding Plan. The City was assisted by MERJE, a consulting firm with extensive community wayfinding experience, in the preparation of the Plan and the design menu. The Plan and its four phases include a combination of Citywide signage types to assist pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motorists in navigating safely and efficiently to their destinations.
