Public Works crews will be removing trees in the area across the street from the USS Albacore Museum, spanning the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge and Michael Succi Drive, starting on Monday, February 25th as part of the Phase 2 improvement plan for the Market Street corridor; this work will last a couple weeks. 

Beginning on Monday, February 11th, traffic flow on Vaughan Street will change to one way heading in the direction of Raynes Avenue and Maplewood Avenue. This one-way traffic will continue until the end of September due to the construction of the AC Hotel at 299 Vaughan Street adjacent to 3S Artspace. Please reference the below map to view this temporary traffic plan.

Next week the City of Portsmouth will be issuing a request for qualifications seeking the operation of a short-distance public transportation service (also referred to as microtransit). 

On Wednesday, December 19th at the Library’s Levenson Room at 6:30 p.m., the City will host a kick-off public input session to discuss a potential North Mill Pond trail project. The purpose of this project would be to design a linear greenway and community park along the North Mill Pond.

Parking will be free at all downtown, on-street parking meters from Sunday, December 16th through Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25th. While parking is free for these 10 days, time limits will still be enforced.

In October, Portsmouth opened its new, 600-space parking garage at 100 Foundry Place. With easy access to major travel corridors, both residents and visitors can easily enjoy quick access to Downtown Portsmouth during the busy holiday season. At just $1.00 per hour, the Foundry is the best rate available in town.

On Monday, November 19th, utility work will occur on the intersection of Court Street and Pleasant Street. Court Street will be closed between Pleasant and Church Streets, and the Pleasant and Court Streets' intersection will remain open for traffic coming from State Street or Marcy Street. A detour route will be in place along with signage and flaggers to assist. Work is expected occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The City of Portsmouth was one of nineteen area organizations that were recognized by CommuteSMART Seacoast for supporting and promoting sustainable commuting for their employees over the previous year. CommuteSMART Seacoast, the regional Transportation Management Association, partners with area employers to help them educate and encourage their employees about commuting options such as taking transit, caropooling, bicycling, walking or teleworking.
