Portsmouth Sewer Division Introduces New Twitter Feed About CSOs
February 27, 2018To better keep residents apprised of occurrences of combined sewer overflows (CSOs), the Portsmouth Sewer Division has introduced a Twitter feed, @PortsmouthCSOs, which will alert the community of overflows in real time.
Weekend work to begin at Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility
February 2, 2018As anticipated, the City has authorized work on the Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade to take place on periodic Saturdays and/or Sundays as weather permits during the winter season. The work will be limited to activities and equipment that do not generate excessive amounts of noise. No large construction vehicle traffic will be generated by this work.
City Reaffirms Its Commitment To Reducing South Mill Pond Discharges
June 19, 2017In documents filed with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Friday, June 16, 2017, the City of Portsmouth reaffirmed its commitment to achieve further reductions in combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges including those discharges to the South Mill Pond. In April 2017, the EPA commented on the City’s Post-Construction Monitoring Plan/Report (PCMP/R); on Friday, the City responded to those comments and submitted a Supplemental Compliance Plan.
Public Tour of Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade Project to be held on Tuesday, June 20th
June 13, 2017PORTSMOUTH, NH – Guided public tours of the Peirce Island Wastewater Facility (WWTF) construction site will be conducted on Tuesday, June 20th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. City staff, along with others involved in the construction of the Peirce Island WWTF upgrade project, will be guiding interested parties through the construction site to provide an opportunity to observe the status of the ongoing construction.

Sewer System Field Work Begins May 8, 2017
May 4, 2017Work related to the City’s sewer system evaluation study will begin on May 8, 2017 and is expected to continue through June 2017. This work will be used to identify areas of the City where groundwater is entering the City’s sewer collection system.
Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Open House Set
March 19, 2012The public is invited to an open house at the Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Plant on Saturday, March 31, to learn more about the facility and an ongoing pilot study of potential technologies for providing mandated secondary treatment of wastewater.
The event will be a unique opportunity for the public to be part of the City's effort to further educate citizens about Portsmouth's wastewater treatment program. City staff and the pilot project engineers will be available to answer questions from 9 a.m. until noon at the 48-year-old facility located at the tip of Peirce Island.
