Learn & Play

Led by a USTA-approved coach, participants will have fun and get great exercise while developing the skills to serve, rally, and play tennis. The program is perfect for first-time and beginner players, as well as returning novice players. 18+.

Please bring a tennis racquet. If you need a racquet to use, the coach will have a few loaner rackets available to borrow during the class.

Practice & Play - Spring Only
For players who want to practice, improve their game and have FUN! SafeSport-approved coach will provide instruction and pair players up for match play. Please bring a tennis racquet. TABLE TENNIS (aka PING PONG)

Table Tennis for all abilities offered by Seacoast Table Tennis Club. This fun activity welcomes experienced players as well as beginners. Both singles and doubles play on new ITTF Donic Brand Tables. Drop-ins welcome. Bring your own equipment or we have a few rackets and balls to borrow.

BEING WELL: 60-min comprehensive workout to promote functional stability and flexibility. Preregistration required. Wednesdays 9:00-10:00am. $10.
DANCE EXCERCISE: Easy to follow routines set to popular music. Mondays 5:15-6:15pm. $7 prepaid | $9 drop-in.
MEDITATION & MOVEMENT: Explore various meditation and movement practices. Drop-in or preregister. Tuesdays 5:00-5:45pm. Spinnaker Members $6 | Residents $7 | Nonresidents $8.
TAI-CHI: Meditation in motion with a series of slow, graceful movements. Thursdays 10:00-11:00am. $110 for 10 weeks.

Adult Fitness at the Indoor Pool

The Indoor Pool offers many aquasize and swimming programs for adults.

AQUA-FITNESS I: Water exercise class and a total body workout.
AQUA-FITNESS HIIT: HIIT (high-intensity interval training) adapted for the pool. All fitness levels.
WATER POWER WORKOUT: Combination of different styles using the water as resistance.
ZUMBA: Dance fitness class that incorporates popular music with dance movements, which creates an exciting, effective fitness program - all in shallow water!
TRI-GROUP: Basic triathlon training for the beginner to experienced swimmer. Tuesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm.

Pickleball Clinics

Learn the basics of pickleball from people who love the sport. Small group instruction for beginners. Instructors will teach the rules & regulations and how to play the game. Please register for only one clinic to give as many people as possible a chance to learn. Bring a water bottle and proper shoes. Racket and balls provided. One lesson per person. Must pre-register. Lifeguard Training - Ages 15+

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training: Ages 15+

Lifeguard training, which provides participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. 
 

2025 TRAINING SCHEDULE:

  • Stay Tuned for the Fall Training Schedule. 
    Location: Portsmouth Indoor Pool

    $350 residents | $400 nonresidents. Includes lifeguard manual, resuscitation mask & certification fees

  • Blended Learning Lifeguard Training - Minimum age: 15 years
  • Course length: 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person and 7 hours 30 minutes online. Total - 27 hours
    Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
  • Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
    • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface and then swim 150 years using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
    • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
    • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
       
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed)
    • Submerge to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps

To successfully complete the Lifeguarding Blended Learning course, the participant must:

  • Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.
  • Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during scenarios.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
  • Pass the final skills scenarios.
  • Complete all eLearning content, including the eLearning written exam (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers ;and First Aid).
  • Successfully pass final written exams with a minimum grade of 80 percent.

Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

American Red Cross: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Training

Content

The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies. Registration closes two weeks prior to the start of class. Sign up for one session.

WSI Instructor Course - Ages15+

Content

This course trains instructor candidates to teach classes in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program for Ages: 15+.  $400 Portsmouth residents | $450 nonresidents

PREREQUISITES FOR THE WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR (WSI) CLASS: To take part of the Water Safety Instructor course, the student must be a minimum age of 16. Demonstrate swimming skills consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4, by swimming the following strokes:

  • Front Crawl – 25 yards
  • Back Crawl – 25 yards
  • Breaststroke – 25 yards
  • Elementary backstroke – 25 yards
  • Sidestroke – 25 yards
  • Butterfly – 15 yards
  • Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
  • Tread water for 1-minute

The Blended Learning content consists of 23hrs of in-class work and 7 hours of at home online study. 
Upon successful completion of the Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course, candidates will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification valid for 2 years.
