The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division released the latest Water Supply Status Report on May 10, providing an assessment of the water supply quantity and quality available through the Portsmouth Water System. Water use generally increases during the summer months as homeowners start outdoor projects and irrigation. At the same time, the water recharge from rainfall decreases in the summer. Since May 2020, precipitation on the Seacoast was 12 inches, or 28 percent below normal.

The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8 am and 12 noon. Proof of residency is required.

The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works will dedicate the new Pease Water Treatment Facility located at 97 Grafton Drive in Portsmouth on Tuesday May 4, 2021 at 10:30 am.

The City of Portsmouth has just received notification that on March 26, ParkMobile, the app available to those who park in Portsmouth, became aware of a security breach in March linked to a vulnerability in ParkMobile's designers' software. In response, ParkMobile immediately launched an investigation with the assistance of a leading cybersecurity firm to address the incident. ParkMobile eliminated the third-party vulnerability, and continues to monitor their security and systems.

The City has completed contract documents and went out to bid last week on the 95 Mechanic Street Seawall and Wharf Replacement project. The project is part of the City’s ongoing responsibility to maintain seawalls.

The Department of Public Works Parks & Greenery Group plans to implement a program to control the impact Canada Geese are having at Four Tree Island, Prescott Park, and the new Gateway park on Market Street.

USDA Forest Service Plant Pathologist Cameron McIntire has arranged with Portsmouth Department of Public Works Parks & Greenery Division and Foreman Arborist Charles Baxter to conduct a small study on the urban forest stand of red pines on Peirce Island.

Based on a road safety audit in 2016 by NHDOT and the City of Portsmouth, the Department of Public Works is moving forward, in partnership with the State of New Hampshire, on a plan to reroute traffic along Lang Road with the addition of a connector road to Longmeadow Road, behind Service Credit Union.

The City Council has scheduled a site walk of the Peverly Hill Road proposed Complete Streets improvement project on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 10 am. The purpose of the meeting is a follow-up to the public information meeting held via Zoom on February 17, 2021. The on-site meeting gives property owners an additional opportunity to see and discuss the project limits and easements that will be necessary along the roadway corridor.
