Update for August 12, 2021

Banfield Road culvert replacement, sidewalk and traffic calming:

At the intersection of Banfield and Ocean Road, stumps and other obstructions have been cleared from the path of the new sidewalk between Heritage and Ocean Road. Curbing will be installed in this area next week. Once the curbing is placed, the process of constructing the sidewalk begins. In addition, two speed tables and two three-way stops -- at both the Heritage Ave. and Constitution Ave. intersections -- will be constructed during the final paving process. Paving will begin once the sidewalk is complete.

Banfield Road paving:

The section of Banfield from Peverly Hill Road to Constitution Ave. previously affected by the sewer pipe installation will soon be reclaimed, reinforced and graded so that it can receive its first layer of new pavement. That process is expected to begin on August 16 and last approximately two weeks.

A single-lane traffic pattern is in effect for both areas, with flaggers in the construction areas, on weekdays between 7 am and 5 pm.

Background:

This project was recommended by the Banfield Master Plan process, which was completed by the City in 2016 and incorporated comments received from two public input meetings. This work is critical for public safety. It addressed sections of Banfield Road that are very narrow and adjacent to open water. Widening the roadway improves safety for pedestrians and allowed for the installation of a guardrail.

This project includes drainage, roadway safety improvements, and paving from Ocean Road to Constitution Ave.

Status: Now under construction at Peverly Hill Road end for installation of piping under the road.

Construction work started July 28 to install sidewalks between Heritage and Ocean Road.

Project Manager: Dave Desfosses, Construction Project Manager 766-1411

Start Date: Construction: Fall 2020

Estimated Time of Completion: Summer 2021

Estimated Cost: $1.5 Million

Funding Source: Capital Funds

Designer/Contractor: John H. Lyman & Sons, Inc. of Gilford, NH.
