Jones Avenue Solar Project

Description: Based on the success of the solar arrays at the Madbury water treatment facility (pictured) and Portsmouth High School, and on the recommendation of the Portsmouth Energy Advisory Committee and their research on similar municipal installations, the City is proceeding with the design of a solar array on the capped and sealed landfill site on Jones Avenue following the APEX evaluation and comparison of bond-to-own, power purchase agreement, land lease, net metering and hybrid or community solar approaches.

Impact: This project addresses implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan by providing green energy that when completed will help offset the City’s energy expenditures.
