Introducing Portsmouth Public Library’s New Bookmobile!
Where can the library take you?
The library is pleased to announce the arrival of our new BOOKMOBILE!
An all-electric Ford Transit van, the PPL Bookmobile will accompany library staff in their outreach efforts, including Homebound Delivery, Farmers Markets, and more!
The vibrant exterior design was created by local designer Elissa Von Letkemann, and we hope our Bookmobile will become a beloved fixture around the City, just as the library represents community, collaboration, and lifelong learning from here on Parrott Avenue. We’re thrilled to have an electric vehicle, upholding our library values of sustainability and innovation.

FAQ
Where did the funds come from for the Bookmobile?
Portsmouth Public Library’s Bookmobile was purchased in 2024 with funds received by the City of Portsmouth as part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These funds were allocated in 2023 to support “mobile library resources” for community outreach. They were not part of the City’s operating budget.
Will the Bookmobile come to my neighborhood?
At this time, the Bookmobile will be used for the library’s existing services and outreach events, including Homebound Delivery, Farmers Markets, Fall Family Fun Fest, Children’s Day, and more. Right now, the Bookmobile won’t have regular stops, but we’ll share these outreach dates as they’re scheduled.
How do I “visit” the Bookmobile? Look for the library’s Bookmobile out in the community – when we’re set up at outreach events, you’ll be able to sign up for a card, renew your library membership, check out new and popular books, learn about our digital services, and ask questions! The Bookmobile is intended for delivery, storage and outreach, so we’re not able to have visitors come aboard. We’ll bring the materials out to you!
