Land and Sea Creatures from Sea Change Farm

In keeping with our summer reading theme, Oceans of Possibilities, Portsmouth Public Library will host an exhibit of ceramic land and sea creatures by artist Amy Nolan. Visit the library’s lobby any time this summer to check out Amy’s creature sculptures, which come from thinking about the importance of wildlife conservation and all of the wildlife species that share space with us on the Seacoast.

About the Artist
Amy Nolan is an artist, mom of three mostly grown kids, and the farmer of the very small Sea Change Farm in Rye, NH. She and her family moved to the Seacoast in 2011 after many years in the Boston area. In the Boston suburbs, Amy grew veggies in her front yard and was issued a permit to keep three hens. In Rye, she had the space to realize her dream: a studio; gardens; chickens, bees and goats, all within walking distance to the beach.

Amy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a B.F.A. in Sculpture and earned an MS in Elementary Education from Duquesne University. She is a juried member of the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, ME and shows her sculpture there seasonally, May through October. She has exhibited throughout New England and in select group shows nationwide. Amy spent many years working and teaching art in alternative educational settings such as the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, The Children’s Museum of Boston, the Radcliffe College and Harvard Ceramics Programs. While with the Children’s Museum of Boston, Amy authored the book, Great Explorations: 100 Creative Play Ideas for Parents and Preschoolers from Playspace. She also enjoyed stints as an Artist-in-Residence in the Boston Public Schools and locally at Rye Elementary School. Amy finds inspiration spending time outdoors and can often be found in her yard, at the beach or on a nature walk.

You can find Amy online at seachangefarm.com.
