Ikebana 2023

Fascinated by Japanese flower arranging? Come learn about the practice and history at a demonstration and exhibition of Ikenobo Ikebana at the Portsmouth Public Library. At 12:30 PM on Friday, June 16, an Ikenobo Ikebana exhibition will be unveiled in the library's lobby. The exhibition runs until 5 PM on Friday, June 17. At 1 PM, there will be a demonstration of Ikebona Ikebana in the Levenson Community Room. Registration is not required.

Ikebana is a way to express one's feelings with each individual flower. Many different Ikebana styles have appeared during the 550 years of Ikebana history. They each have a distinctive character and are arranged with a particular form or pattern in mind. Awareness of natural beauty allows the arranger to gradually approach the ideal beauty that Ikebana seeks. 

The event is sponsored by The Kittery Point Ikenobo Chapter and welcomes you to its celebration of this centuries-old floral art form. The Kittery Point Chapter is affiliated with the Ikeobono Headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. Members of the Kittery Point Chapter will demonstrate four different Ikebana styles. The exhibition in the library's lobby will be of arrangements created by members of the Kittery Ikenobo Chapter.
