Kate Homet

Kate Homet is the Environmental Planner and Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Portsmouth, where she leads initiatives that advance environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and sustainable community development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Urban Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a Master of Science in Geography and Environmental Sciences from Villanova University.

Kate's professional and research experience spans environmental science, geographic information systems (GIS), stormwater management and modeling, climate adaptation, and urban planning. A Portsmouth native, she began her work with the City in 2018 as a Planning Department Fellow through the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Institute. In that role, she conducted research and field assessments in Portsmouth's South End, mapping groundwater flooding impacts and identifying vulnerabilities in local infrastructure.

Today, Kate manages the City's Conservation Commission and Sustainability Committee and plays a key role in implementing Portsmouth's environmental and sustainability initiatives, including the Climate Action Plan, Open Space Plan, Coastal Resiliency Initiative, and environmental regulatory programs. She works closely with residents, partner organizations, and municipal departments to address environmental challenges, improve community resilience, and support responsible management of natural resources, stormwater, and groundwater systems.
