About the Science Team
Portsmouth High School currently staffs twelve full-time science teachers. Our teachers are state certified in the topics they teach and maintain advanced degrees. PHS high school science teachers are diversified with backgrounds in engineering, industrial laboratory work, environmental field work, with a multiple decades working in education. All of our science teachers are highly qualified in the courses they teach.
About Our Classrooms
Our laboratory classrooms are equipped with both a classroom set-up and a lab room outfitted with laboratory tables, sinks and electrical outlets. We are fortunate to have at our disposal classroom projectors, wireless internet, document cameras, fume hoods, and gas utilities. Our science classes are lab driven and use of probeware is common. Tablets, camera and video equipment are encouraged during laboratory data collection. Laboratory classrooms are well-equipped and specific to each science discipline.
About Our Courses
Freshmen are required to take earth and physical science. As sophomores, they are required to take biology and ecology classes. Juniors are encouraged to take chemistry, as well as physics. Juniors and Seniors have a wide array of science electives from which they may choose.
