Hurricane Season - Are You Prepared?
June 3, 2025
The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center predicts above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year for the 2025 hurricane season from June 1 to November 30.
NOAA is forecasting a range of 13 to 19 total named storms (with winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 6 to 10 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 5 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). Forecasters have a 70% confidence in these ranges.
NOAA plans to update the forecast in early August to coincide with the onset of the peak months of the season.
The Health Department reminds residents and businesses to revisit their emergency preparedness plans to be ready for extreme weather events.
