FY27 Rate and Fee Update

Effective July 1, 2026, the City of Portsmouth will implement changes to its water and sewer utility rate structure, rates, and fees as part of the adopted Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Budget. These changes are based on recommendations from the City's recent Water and Sewer Rate Study.

Potential for Discolored Water in Greenland

On Wednesday June 17th, 2026, the City of Portsmouth Water Division is beginning a groundwater well pumping test on the Greenland Well. Due to the high rate of flow that will be pumped into the water system, there is a potential for a temporary discoloration of the public water supply in the Greenland area. Discoloration is caused by the mobilization of iron and manganese sediments that have accumulated in the water mains. These deposits are not harmful, but could stain clothes and fixtures, and impart a metallic taste to the water.

DPW Resumes Water Service Line Inventory "Potholing" in Maple Haven Neighborhood

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Revised Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR) requires all public water suppliers to inventory the type of material used in every water service line connected to their water system. The City of Portsmouth submitted its initial inventory of service line materials in October 2024 and has since continued to identify materials that were unknown at that time.
