Portsmouth residents can drop off compostable food waste at the Recycling Center during regular operating hours. This service is proudly maintained by Mr. Fox Composting, a local composting partner.

📢 Note: We are currently out of free backyard compost bins. We'll notify the community if more become available.

✅ What You Can Compost

Please remove stickers from produce and staples from tea bags.

  • Fruit & vegetable scraps (including meat scraps)
  • Eggshells
  • Coffee grounds & filters
  • Paper napkins, paper towels, paper plates
  • Tea bags (no staples)
  • Muffin wrappers (wax paper)
  • Flowers & floral trimmings
  • Wooden corks
  • Corn-based compostable cups and utensils
  • Paper and compostable bags

  • Tuesday: 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM
  • Wednesday: 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM
  • Thursday: 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
